Visit to Geneva
We took a drive from Ithaca to Geneva last Saturday, what a beautiful day! We had lunch at Belhurst Castle on Lake Geneva, in the Stonecutter's Tavern. It's a pub inside the hotel with a great view of the lake. A wedding party was setting up on the lawn, they sure picked the right day. The food was excellent, I had a grilled salmon salad and Chardonnay and Bob had the tenderloin tip salad, with mesquite-marinated Angus beef, and a glass of Pinot Noir. Edgar's, also inside this century-old castle, is able to accommodate larger groups, and offers a Sunday brunch.
We stopped to visit the Geneva Historical Society on the historic row of brick houses on South Main Street. The museum has two period rooms on the first floor, and exhibit space in the basement. The current exhibit features representations of Native Americans from our region. We were surprised to learn that Sullivan's March of 1779, in which the American army expelled the Haudenosaunee from the area, was celebrated by dressing up like Indians, even in the first half of the 20th century.
.
Had a pleasant wine tasting at Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars, one of Seneca Lake's vinifera wineries, and took some of their wine home. They were celebrating their 20th anniversary with an outdoor jazz concert, lovely end to our outing!

White Hawk Ecovillage
I visited Julie and Joe at White Hawk Ecovillage, and enjoyed their beautiful location on a hill just north of Danby. They are currently giving tours showcasing their energy efficient homes and property to prospective members and interested citizens, and will feature the music of John Simon on the May 2 tour. Visit their web site at
http://www.whitehawk.org/
for more information about the village!
